Hi OPS team,
I'm working at the TU/e and we are participating in a european project called WebALT (http://webalt.math.helsinki.fi/). It is our task to develop one of the needed portlets for this project. We decided to use OPS for this. Since portlet functionality has only been added recently to OPS, we have been using nightly builds for a long time now. Therefore we are very happy with the upcoming release of 3.5. Our problem however is that time is running out, the project draws to a close, and our portlet still doesn't function properly on the JBoss server, where it should cooperate with other (non-ops portlets made by other parties). The 3.5M1 release did solve quite a few bugs we where having (tested in Tomcat). However a test in JBoss (4.0.4) failed completely, it wasn't able to start at all, neither was the OPS servlet itself. This you already know since it is logged at: http://forge.objectweb.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=305894&group_id=168&atid=350207 However as I said, the project draws to a close, and we are wondering when the final release of 3.5 is due, or at least a fix for this JBoss problem. We are all hoping it will be in time to solve our problems before the project closes. Can you shed some light on your planning? Keep up the good work! Rikko,
BTW, it is my understanding that if there are specific bugs or features you need looking at, you can allways purchase consulting services from the Orbeon team. I have done that with success in the past, and their prices are quite reasonable. Sincerely, Henrik Pettersen Advanced Computation Laboratory Cancer research UK On 10/2/06, R. Rikko,
We appreciate the difficulty you have with your deadline. As said earlier, OPS 3.5 will be out "when it is ready", and it is unfortunately hard to predict when that will be as we have to juggle with our limited resources between working on OPS, providing free support on ops-users, helping paying customers, do sales and marketing, attend W3C meetings, and I probably forget a few things ;-) We also have over 400 bugs and requests for enhancements listed in our tracker, so I would feel extremely bad trying to promise that a particular issue will be fixed for a particular date. We do have "only" about 40 marked with priority 7 or higher though, which we plan to address as soon as we can. I have moved the JBoss issue to P7, if that can be of some comfort. Is there any investigation of this issue that you, or somebody else on the list, can do? Also, what does your deadline look like? -Erik > I'm working at the TU/e and we are participating in a european project > called WebALT (http://webalt.math.helsinki.fi/). > It is our task to develop one of the needed portlets for this project. > We decided to use OPS for this. Erik,
A fact of life is that every commitment seems to come with a load of work. You guys really have my respect for trying to produce a product that ships when it is finished, instead of finishing the product after that it has shipped. I also appreciate the priority jump you gave to this issue. Like I said; every commitment comes with a lot of work, and our product is no different. Especially since we are now in the final month of coding and still have quite a few bugs of our own. We are as you can see really close to our deadline. Therefore I can't promise you much help in trying to tackle this bug. I'll however consult with other members of the project to see if we can find some other means to assist you in solving this issue.
