In theory Orbeon Forms (gotta use the new name now!) will run within any compliant Servlet container. In practice, there are sometimes issues due to the mess that is Java classloading and JAR conflicts. This said, we haven't tried the Sun Application Server ourselves, so we cannot tell you for sure whether it runs as is or not. The best thing is for you to give it a try: it's just a matter of deploying the OPS 3.5 M1 WAR file and checking whether the examples are working. > if not please suggest some IDE that is as sophisticated as that Eclipse? IntelliJ? http://www.eclipse.org/ http://www.jetbrains.com/idea/ Note that to work with Orbeon Forms, you usually don't need a Java IDE or a full-fledged application server. What you really need is an XML editor and a simple Servlet container. -Erik -- Orbeon - XForms Everywhere: http://www.orbeon.com/blog/ -- You receive this message as a subscriber of the [hidden email] mailing list. JSF is a great idea to use, then I found sun creator an easy tool that we could use, especially that two of my team members studied business so they don't have a good knowledge in programming, therefore I chose Sun creator for them to easily develop. Now we want to integrate the concept of Xforms in it, and OPS seemed a great tool to be used. I'm not sure if we can integrate Xforms with the pages! So now what do u suggest? Hi Imane,
I have used Sun's Studio Creator and Orbeon Forms - but never together. (Note that when you say 'Sun Java Application Server' I think you mean the server (sort of like Tomcat) rather than the development environment (Studio Creator).) Personally, I would not attempt to combine JSF and XForms in one application. JSF and XForms provide different ways of solving some of the same problems, both have a lifecycle of their own and both have ways of passing data around to the back-end. If you were to use XForms in Studio Creator you would have to NOT use most of the parts of Creator that make it nice. In addition to what John mentioned, and just so that this is clear: you
won't see the Orbeon Forms XForms components appear in the graphical editor of Studio Creator. Orbeon Forms and XForms really focus on web forms, and they are great especially if you want to deal with form data in XML format, and if you don't want to write your user interface logic with a scripting language or a language like Java. Instead, you use declarative XForms events and actions to provide dynamic behavior to your user interface. Although Orbeon Forms is written in Java, for most applications you don't need to write any Java code at all. JavaServer Faces also allows you to build forms but it is a more generic UI component system. It is very much tied to the Java platform, and it is very unlikely that you will use JSF without writing Java code as well. -Erik Imane Assalama wrote: > hmmm that is really insightful view of the situation, I'll have to let > the team vote for what they want then! > > > Kind regards,// > > > > Imane > > / / > > / / > > / / > > *Imane Assalama ** > **Management Associate > IT department* > > * * > > *Emaar Properties PJSC** > * > > // > > Tel: + 971 4 3673333 > Direct Tel: + 971 4 3673870 > Fax: + 971 4 3673730 > > // > > *Email: [hidden email] <mailto:[hidden email]>** > **www.emaar.com <http://www.emaar.com/>* > > **** > > > > > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------ > *From:* John Cobo [mailto:[hidden email]] > *Sent:* Wednesday, November 08, 2006 2:07 PM > *To:* [hidden email] > *Subject:* Re: [ops-users] is it compatible with Sun Java System > Application Server > > Hi Imane, > > I have used Sun's Studio Creator and Orbeon Forms - but never together. > > (Note that when you say 'Sun Java Application Server' I think you mean > the server (sort of like Tomcat) rather than the development environment > (Studio Creator).) > > Personally, I would not attempt to combine JSF and XForms in one > application.
