Using OPS, if JavaScript is disabled in browser

clemens.harder
Hi there,

is there a way to use my ops-app, if user has disabled javascript?

Thanks
Clemens

If you are talking about XForms NG, the answer is no. For other OPS
functionality, the answer of course is yes.

We have many ideas as to how we could provide a non-Javascript, non-AJAX
mode for XForms NG, and therefore allowing for so-called "graceful
degradation", but for now there is no code.

The bottom line is that Ajax, as the name implies, requires Javascript.
So you can either degrade, or detect the situation and tell the user
that she needs to enable Javascript.

Hi Clemens,

At this point it won't work if JavaScript is disabled. A first thing
would be to warn the user that the page won't work because JavaScript
is disabled. We have in fact a bug for this:

http://forge.objectweb.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=303828&group_id=168&atid=350207

Then, we have in mind an architecture that would allow for a large
subset of XForms to work even when JavaScript is disabled, otherwise
known as "graceful degradation". But we haven't got a chance to
implement this yet.

Thanks for reply!

But what about the old engine of ops? Is this one working without
javaScript? If yes, I could implement my app in both engines and use
them depending of JavaScript is activated or not.

The old XForms engine uses very limited JavaScript for things such as
triggers implemented with hyperlinks. So it is quite friendly with dumb
or dumbed-down browsers.

But with Classic, you will get *very* limited XForms functionality, plus
you will have to deal with different ways of doing things with Classic
and NG, etc.
