Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Thorsten Stumpf
Ok, so let's split it up:

Does anybody mind to tell me, if the dynamic autocomplete does work in the latest stable?
The Wiki says yes.

Thank you very much,

JT

Re: Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Thorsten Stumpf
Hello Grégoire!

Thank you very much for your fast response!

I tried to set this up but - at least form me - it doesn't work in dynamic mode.
It works perfectly in static mode though (so it doesn't seem tob e a browser issue).

In dynamic mode I can perfectly track down the submit and the reply appears in the selected instance for the proposals containing every time all the proper items.
But there doesn't appear a suggestion list at the autocomplete field from which I can select an item/items label at all.

I think I'm missing something essential in the wiki but I don't see what.
So maybe you can set me on track how to configure this or send me an example?

Thank you in advance for your support,

JT

Re: Re: Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Grégoire Neuville
Well, the example given in the wiki is pretty much what I've got too.
My guess - if your instance is correctly updated but you don't see any
suggestion list - is that there may be something wrong with the
bindings of your autocomplete's itemset ('nodeset' attribute of
xforms:itemset or 'ref' attributes of xforms:label/value)

Re: Re: Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Thorsten Stumpf
Hi!

Don't think that's the problem because it's working with exactly the same node set and label/value setup for the static version.

So in my opinion that's not possible, is it?

JT

Hi JT,

Hard to say without seeing (and more importantly: being able to run)
some actual code. Is there a chance you could put together a short and
minimal example maybe calling a mock service, that we could run here
to reproduce the issue you're seeing?

Re: Re: Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Thorsten Stumpf
In reply to this post by Thorsten Stumpf
Hi!

I copied the wiki version for static and dynamic for us.

And again: The static one *does* work, the dynamic does *not*.

If the dynamic version is supposed to be working with the latest stable release I don't see any sensible explanation for the static versions to work like a charm while the dynamic ones do not.

Let's have a look at the steps I've taken:
1. The itemset has exactly the same definition on both (static and dynamic).
2. Both are in the same orbeon application.
3. The data instance of the dynamic section is altered and filled with proper proposals as soon as I enter any characters in the autocomplete.

At 1. That means both share the same structure and if readable by the static version it should be readable by the dynamic as well.
At 2. That means the available resources are the same, and the pathes are to.
At 3. That means the setup of the actions is correct.

Another experiment:
If I fill the instance supposed to hold the suggestions of a dynamic version manually (on startup) with a downloaded list (again the same structure) and remove the dynamic instructions I get a perfectly working static version.
But for dynamic mode there are *no* autocomplete suggestions. Never!

A) Can please anybody who is really settled on orbeon tell me, if the dynamic version is working or not in the latest stable?
B) If so can I please, please, please have a complete and working example of a *dynamic* autocomplete with the latest *stable* release?
C) Can the wiki please be clearified and updated on all the used instances and variables of the example given for http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/developer-guide/xbl-components/autocomplete#TOC-Dynamic - I thought I understand it but obviously I don't (and it is not that well documented with all the completely unexplained instances if you have a look at it)...

Honestly, I get a bit tired and simply put, this is not only getting urgent but I also "don't like"...

Thanks in advance,

JT

Re: Re: Re: Does dynamic autocomplete work in latest stable

Ethan Gruber
I'm using dynamic autocomplete with the latest stable.  It has been working well for me for nearly two years.  I am using TermsComponent controller in Apache Solr to return matching terms, and the user manually enter terms that are not in the datastore.  This is accomplished by manually adding the current inputting search value into the itemset with each new keystroke.  Here's some code that you might find useful.

sorry, didn't see your response till now.

Basically I can provide you with waht I have posted some while ago.

This is an excerpt from my application regarding the problem. I wan't a simple list oft train stations from our own webservice - sorry, I can't provide an external URL but that may be quite simple: just put a copy of the content of train-stations-test online as a document.

Inside model:

            <!-- TRAIN-STATIONS TICKET :: START -->
            <xforms:instance id="train-stations-test">
                <itemList>
                    <item code="GKA">GOROKA</item>
                    <item code="TDA">TRINIDAD TDA</item>
                    <item code="GJT">GRAND JUNCTION CH AIRLINES </item>
                </itemList>
            </xforms:instance>
            <xforms:instance id="train-stations">
                <itemlist xmlns=""/>
            </xforms:instance>
            <xforms:instance id="train-stations-params">
                <params xmlns="">
                    <search/>
                    <selected code="" label=""/>
                </params>
            </xforms:instance>
            <xforms:submission id="train-stations-update" validate="false" action="/list?type=train&amp;query={instance('train-stations-params')//search}" method="post" serialization="application/xml" ref="instance('train-stations')" replace="instance" instance="train-stations"/>
            <!-- TRAIN-STATIONS TICKET :: END -->

Outside model:

            <fr:autocomplete ref="instance('train-stations-params')//selected/@code"
                labelref="instance('train-stations-params')//selected"
                id="dynamic-autocomplete-2"
                dynamic-itemset="true">

                <!-- React to user searching -->
                <xforms:action ev:event="fr-search-changed">
                    <xxforms:variable name="search-value" select="event('fr-search-value')"/>
                    <xxforms:variable name="make-suggestion"
                        select="string-length($search-value) &gt; 0"/>
                    <xforms:action if="$make-suggestion">
                        <!-- Update itemset -->
                        <xforms:setvalue ref="instance('train-stations-params')//search"
                            value="$search-value"/>
                        <xforms:send submission="train-stations-update"/>
                    </xforms:action>
                    <xforms:action if="not($make-suggestion)">
                        <!-- Delete itemset -->
                        <xforms:delete nodeset="instance('train-stations')//item"/>
                    </xforms:action>
                </xforms:action>

                <xforms:label>Country code (dyn):</xforms:label>
                <xforms:itemset nodeset="instance('train-stations')//item">
                    <xforms:label ref="."/>
                    <xforms:value ref="@code"/>
                </xforms:itemset>
            </fr:autocomplete>

Would be great to get on with that - it is getting really urgent...

Thank a lot,

JT
