meaning of src="input:instance"

I am not quite sure what src="input:instance" does. The XForm reference tells us "The <xforms:instance> element supports an src attribute, able to access the current XML submission using the input:instance URI, as well as the page model data using the input:data URI."

Any clarification on this is appreciated.

input:instance refers to the "current XML submission on your page".  
The name "instance" is kind of a legacy name coming from the days of  
our old XForms engine. Maybe this should rather be called  
input:submission.

Anyway in Orbeon page flow terminology, any page your declare in your  
page flow is able to handle the submission of an XML document.  
"Submission" here means usually an HTTP POST or HTTP PUT to the URL of  
your page, but it can also be an "internal" submission or a "default"  
submission. See this part of the doc:
