eXist plans?

idwright
Hi,

I notice that the final v1 release of eXist has been released (1.4.2)

Are there any plans to make an Orbeon version of this available?
and what are the thoughts with regard to eXist v2?

I have been reluctant to upgrade Orbeon while it's using a development
version of eXist (I am seeing some rare problems, that I can't
reproduce, with data loss at the moment on 3.8)

Related to this - is it still necessary to have the customized versions
of the different jars e.g. xerces?

Thanks,
Ian

Ian,

Thanks for the update. We should certainly update to 1.4.2.

But please note that the built-in eXist is not meant to be used for
deployment. We always recommend setting up an external database. See
in particular:

http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/developer-guide/exist-configuration

3.9 (released a year ago) no longer uses the built-in eXist at all for
the XForms engine, which means that if you setup an external eXist
database for Form Runner, you are completely independent from the
built-in eXists database.

The customized XML parser is still required.
