YUI RTE integration with Orbeon

Xin-4
Dear Orbeon,

We are very interested in the new editor YUI/RTE you are going to
integrate into Orbeon. That would help us a lot, especially it is light
weight and it can have more functions, can even apply our own CSS on the
YUI/RTE skin.

We just have one question that when can you actually finish this
integartion? If you can just give me a general time so that we can wait
for with at least a hope. :-)

Many Thanks!
xin

the fckeditor allows to apply skins for the editor and the edited text,
too: [1]. After it's said that the new 2.5 version of the fckeditor
supports also Opera and Safari, i would be happy if it would be still
available besides the YUI/RTE editor (if this is possible).

FCKEditor 2.5 (was: Re: YUI RTE integration with Orbeon)

No, it isn't (i hope it will soon ;-) ), but one can easily upgrade the
fckeditor in orbeon-resources-public.jar "manually" as it was possible
with 3.5.X in ops-resources-public.jar. In FCKEditor 2.5, there's a
change regarding the API (getXHTML() is replaced by getData() to access
the editor content), but the old function names are still supported. So
it should work with the new FCKEditor, too.

Florian,

I think we would try to make both editors available, at least
initially. In the longer term, it might be better to standardize on a
single editor.

By "NEW Editor", do you mean the new FCK, or the YUI RTE?

Re: FCKEditor 2.5

In reply to this post by Erik Bruchez
Hi Erik,
as you might remember, I integrated myself the latest Versions of FCK to
my own app.
So with "new" i ment the YUI RTE Editor. I didn't read anything about a
new editor to be integrated with Orbeon. I tried to find something in
the news, but perhaps i looked at the wrong place!? While i don't know
anything about it, it would be great to get more information about it
and your plans to integrate it into OPS.

Thanks a lot,
kind regards, Marcus

Re: YUI RTE integration with Orbeon

In reply to this post by Xin-4
Xin,

No particular schedule, sorry. The first step is to commit our YUI
upgrade to CVS. This hopefully will be done in the next few weeks,
let's say sooner rather than later. Then regarding actually doing the
RTE work, this will follow the usual process:

   http://www.orbeon.com/ops/doc/home-faq#issue-fixing

I don't think it is "very easy" or that it is absolutely crucial at
the moment, so the other options apply ;-)

Once the more recent YUI is committed to CVS, if somebody feels like
helping us integrating RTE, please go ahead (and let ops-users know
that you are working on it):

* We would like to keep for now FCK and RTE side to side, so we need
some kind of configuration option
* Based on this option, the server should probably output slightly
different markup in XFormsTextareaHandler
* The server must also include the proper JavaScript files in
XHTMLHeadHandler
* Some JavaScript code may be involved as well in xforms.js

Re: FCKEditor 2.5

Hi Marcus,

Of course I remember :-)

Using YUI RTE instead of FCK is an idea which we have floated on ops-
users a while ago. It is just that FCK is causing more pain than it
should, and that support is not great. The hope is that Yahoo will
support RTE better than FCK is currently supported. Also this will
have the benefit of integrating better with the rest of the YUI
controls, including dialogs.

Information about it is available here:

   http://developer.yahoo.com/yui/editor/
