I have a question from a customer about resource usage and performance for a
very large form (400 controls or something like that). They currently have this form running in version 3.9 and it is slow. They will be upgrading soon to version 2018.2 (ish). The form seems like it could benefit from being updated a bit to work with wizard mode. The question is, will this help with performance and resource (CPU/Ram) usage. In wizard mode, does Orbeon only render the current page when required or are all the pages rendered at the start and then just presented to the user as they step through the form? Any description of how this works would be appreciated. thanks, brian... -- Sent from: http://discuss.orbeon.com/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group. Hi Brian,
Yes, we've made some performance improvements for 2018.1, and those changes typically make a big difference with large forms using the wizard. See "Performance enhancements for large forms" on the page linked below. But of course, the best would be to try those forms on 2018.2, see how what the improvement is in practice with those forms, and if the improvement isn't inline with what you had hoped then address the issue. You'll let me know what your findings are. https://blog.orbeon.com/2018/09/orbeon-forms-20181.html ‑Alex ----- -- Follow Orbeon on Twitter: @orbeon Follow me on Twitter: @avernet -- Sent from: http://discuss.orbeon.com/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group. Hi Brian, just curious: did you already get a chance to try the large forms
you were referring to with 2018.2? If so, did that have a positive impact on performance? ‑Alex ----- -- Follow Orbeon on Twitter: @orbeon Follow me on Twitter: @avernet -- Sent from: http://discuss.orbeon.com/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group. Hi Alex,
No and I'm unlikely to in the near term. The form in question is on an existing customer production system that is running Orbeon 3.9. We will get to it when we upgrade them but that will not be for a while yet. We have to quite a bit of work on most of our customer's existing templates to get them working on the latest orbeon version, particularly the templates that have been modified by hand. So upgrades take a bit of time to complete. I'll make a point of looking at the performance when that is done. thanks brian... -- Sent from: http://discuss.orbeon.com/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group. know once you get to it! ‑Alex ----- -- Follow Orbeon on Twitter: @orbeon Follow me on Twitter: @avernet -- Sent from: http://discuss.orbeon.com/ -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group.
