Where is the eXist database? How do I access it?

I have been looking for the eXist database for quiet a while now, and I just cant seem to find it?  Is anyone able to help me?

The data is under the WAR file's WEB-INF/exist-data.

Note that we don't recommend using the built-in eXist database for production.
