I just read the following sentence in "XForms Reference" [1]: Often the value must be converted, for example to a date, in which case the conversion can be done with XPath 2.0 type casts such as xs:date(.). But strictly speaking, xs:date() is a constructor function, cast expressions being written with a "cast as" operator [2].
