Trailing Whitespace stripped in Instance Inspector (RFE)

fl.schmitt
Hi,

i found a little but maybe irritating issue concerning the instance inspector. It seems that trailing whitespace isnt't displayed in textual element content when showing the instance data. This can be tested for example in XForms Controls Example: http://www.orbeon.com/ops/xforms-controls/ - just enter some data in the password field (the age field may not work with textual data because it expects numeric values) with leading / trailing whitespace. Multiple whitespace, for example two or three spaces, seem to get normaized to one space.

In most cases this isn't critical, but in my case, i tried to sort a set of elements where some of them contained trailing whitespace, so those elements were sorted after those that were correctly entered without whitespace. Because i trusted the instance inspector who didnt't show any difference, it took me some time until i found the cause why the sorting seemed not to work correctly - in fact it worked from start on...

So i would propose to modify the instance inspector so it shows all the whitespace inside the textual content of an element.

Florian,

I entered an RFE:

http://forge.objectweb.org/tracker/index.php?func=detail&aid=307918&group_id=168&atid=350207

If you want to have a stab it, the stylesheet that formats XML is
available in orbeon-resources-private.jar (formerly ops-resources-
private.jar), under:

   /ops/utils/formatting/xml-formatting.xsl

In the meanwhile you can use the "Plain" mode of the inspector.
