Re: Serving a static file with session-destroyed.xpl

Marcus-2
Hi Erik,
i have the Nightlybuild from 26.6. installed and refering to your email i
found following problems.
error.xsl is still in the /resources/config
i deleted error.xpl there and no i get in the log:

2007-06-30 02:25:32,890 http-8085-1 ERROR webapp.ProcessorService  -
org.orbeon.oxf.common.OXFException: Cannot load "/config/error.xpl" with
webapp loader: Cannot load "/config/error.xpl" with webapp loader

So, did you changed those settings in the last 3 days, or are there any
other changes i have to make???
Sorry, but after i included a new eXist Version to get the Webclient work,
integrated the SecurityFilter and Updated the FCKeditor, i can't easyly
update everything, but have to know about more important changes to help you
testing :-(

Any other hints?
Marcus

In reply to this post by Erik Bruchez
Hi Erik, it's me again,
ok, here is my last opinion on the last update! I will return to an older
Nightlybuild for the moment!
I try to develope my webapp and therefore i have most of the time about 4
tabs opened in the browser, but since the latest update, after only some
minutes all tabs in the background become invalid with the old known
message:

XForms error: Unable to retrieve XForms engine state from session cache.

I thought you tried to change some things, so that this error won't appear
that often, but at the moment it appears more often than with the
Nightylbuild from 22.05 that i had worked with before :-(
I don't know what happend, but for now the latest version seems not to be a
good alternative :-( Sorry

Regards, Marcus

Non, except that your nightly may be broken. Best is to use the latest
latest.

Are you using one from June 26, or a more recent one?

Hi Erik,
and again its me :-)
OK, i gave the latest Nightlybuild a last try - i updated tonight to
<meta name="generator" content="Orbeon Forms 3.6.0beta.200706300015">

Fewer Error messages, but also this version stucks when not using every
browser tab for lets say about half an hour!?
After that in every none-used browser window the little "Loading..." message
is shown and the site is still off so i have to load it again, when i want
to use it again - which ends with loosing the data on that page (i.e. when
entering a form!)

I don't know exactly if i can connect those habbit to the these logs, but i
think so, i will confirm this the next time i get an "Loading" so the last
logs will show whats happend...

Of course i know that not every Nightlybuild is stable and functions well,
but perhaps it would be better only to update the Nightlybuilds that work
well somehow, and when greater changes like moving more files to other
places are finished! To test the latest version came up tp my mind, while
you wrote that error.xpl AND error.xsl has moved, but in the version from
26.7. only the error.xpl was moved, but than not found by the app itself...
so there must have been inconsistant links to the error.xpl still searching
in the /config dir....

Just an idea. This should be only constuctive critik, nothing more. Sorry if
my last mails tonight on this thread sound a bit impolite :-( Didn't ment
it! You do great work, and i'm glad to recieve your help and to be able to
work with OPS!

Best regards, Marcus

Hi Erik,
the list seems to hang a half day :-(
As i wrote today morning i updated tonight to the Version from 30.6. but
still have some nerving(?) errors :-(
Not only the one discribed to you in the last post - "Loading at the top and
a none more working page"
But since some hours i'm facing also to problem, that more often i get an
Error Dialog:

An error has occurred in Orbeon Forms. You may want to try one of the
following:

    * Close this dialog and continue to use this page.
    * If this does not work, press the ctrl key (or command key on a Mac)
and click on the Reload button in the toolbar.
    * Return home.

oxf:/ops/xforms/xforms-server.xpl   55   103
reading processor output
name → response
id → xml-response
 <p:output name="response" id="xml-response"
schema-href="xforms-server-response.rng"/>
oxf:/ops/xforms/xforms-server.xpl  61  52
executing processor
name → {http://www.orbeon.com/oxf/processors}xml-serializer
 <p:processor name="oxf:xml-serializer">

And i think, that souldn't happen also that often :-(
Please let me know as soon as those problems are solved! I need a more
stable and working version unless i have to finish in two weeks!!! Hope that
we'll find a stable Nightylbuild until then!

Regards, Marcus

Marcus,

It's the second NPE that you have and that looks a little funny. Could
it just be that one of your models doesn't have any instances? In that
case, I don't think that this NPE would be new as this code was
implemented quite a while ago.

But still, this NPE should not happen so I just committed some fixes
that should help prevent it.

Thanks for helping us test!

Marcus,

The funny thing is that there is no actual error message in what you
pasted below. It should appear between the "Return home" and the call
stack. Also, you may find an exception in your logs which could be useful.

Maybe it's just the same NPE which you got earlier.

Also, check if you have a model without instances, and if so, whether
that is actually intended.

And yes, indeed i have to models without any instances - is that the
problem?
So what should i do about that? Just don't use them, or as a workaround put

Or is this just the thing you mentioned that commit some fixes for???

So, should i just update to the NIghtlybuild today again and than it should
work, or do a workaround with empty instances???

And hey, no problem helping you test. Until the last months while working
with OPS i got so much support from you, thats just something i can help you
with i hope! But also i kept in mind to give you detailed information about
some other cases i solved and hope that will be helpful to you and others.
Just let me know, how i should do that. I.e. "How To integrate the Security
Servlet for authentication against the eXist-DB instead of tomcat" and a
"how to integrate the eXist JavaGUI"
But only if you think that would be helpful!?

Regards, Marcus

If you still get NPEs with the latest builds, please let us know, but
yes, you could work around the issue by putting a dummy instance in there.

If you can, please try the latest build. If not, use the workaround ;-)

Thanks. Anything that can help other users is welcome! I don't remember
if you have already done so, but you can always start by sending some
detailed instructions to this list.

We also have the Orbeon Forms wiki which could be used:

   http://wiki.objectweb.org/ops/

We like the idea of using a wiki for documentation and tips and tricks,
but to be honest this particular wiki implementation leaves a little to
be desired so we don't use it as much as we should.

Re: Serving a static file with session-destroyed.xpl

Marcus-2
Hi Erik,
if updated tonight, but also used the workaround with dummy instaces, just
to be sure, while i had no answer from you. It seems to work a bit better,
but the Error-Dialog is just displayed very often, also without any Error
Message :-(
When someone uses the back-button or presses two menu buttons i.e. - so
every time an AJAX Request is send in Background and you don't wait until
its Response is delivered leeds to an Error-Dialog i think :-( That is very
annoying!!!

So i think the reasons when the Dialog is shown should be "more" important
and not with every little "confusing" actions - sorry, i don't know how to
discribe it better in english, hope you get the point :-(

And to the other point, i had a thread reffering to the exist JavaGUI and i
had given a little list of important thing, so one can get it work. For the
Security Authentication Filter i havn't done that in detail, while i had to
recode exist xmldb.realm new and don't know where to give others the
possibility to download it i.e.!?

So far at this point,
Marcus

A few questions:

* Do you see it as a link? Or do you not see the link at all?

* What if you try to close the dialog with its close box?

* Is this with IE only or with Firefox as well?

This seems to work for me under different error conditions, so I am
wondering what's different in your case.

Try this to figure out better where the error occurs. Set the following
properties to "false" in properties.xml:

<property as="xs:boolean" name="oxf.xforms.minimal-resources"
          value="false"/>
     <property as="xs:boolean" name="oxf.xforms.combine-resources"
               value="false"/>

Then you should get a more precise file name and line number for the error.

Even better, with Firefox and Firebug, if you enable breaking on error,
Firebug will show you the exact line of code which caused the error.

Ok so this is the interesting part. Is this with IE or Firefox? What are
the exact steps to reproduce?

Because I clicked like a madman on the Government Forms example and I
don't see the error dialog appear.

Errors shouldn't happen. If an error actually happens, the user should
be informed. If it's really a minor thing, then maybe it should not be
considered an error, but I am not sure what kind of thing this would be!

Well how big is it?

HI Erik,

> * Do you see it as a link? Or do you not see the link at all?
I see the "Close this dialog" in the special Orbeon-blur-colour, but just
like a "readonly-link"

> * What if you try to close the dialog with its close box?
I can't close it that way - only thing possible is to use the "Back to home"
Link, and to few the erros!
OK, sometimes reloading the page direct inside the browser helps, but most
times the error message appears right after that again

> * Is this with IE only or with Firefox as well?
This "disfunctions" show up it both browsers here  - FF 2.0.0.4 and IE 7.0.6

> This seems to work for me under different error conditions, so I am

For it worked under no error condition - don't matter what error, everytime
the same behavior :-(
Sorry

Regards, Marcus

Just like everytime, when you need to reproduce it, it won't happen to do
:-(
I try to find a reproduceable situation and let you know.
In the meantime, perhaps you wanne test yourself with my webapp....
Most of the time my testing server is available under
http://stmarcus.dyndns.org:8085/kkbib

Perhaps you'll find a way to reproduce it...

The Error with the FCK is fixed - just a little JS Code Error - and thats
the problem with JS - one single false code error and you can forget the
whole code :-( Sorry for that and thanks for the tipp with Firebug, i just
installed it and perhaps it will help me find the last errors....

So far nothing.

That's at least one good news :-)
