It was a filesystem permission problem. It might be helpful to return the OS error codes for things like this.

Hard to say without more information. I'd recommend you have a look at the orbeon.log; I hope it will contain an error message that can put you on the right track. If there isn't enough information to tell, try setting the log level as described in the "Development configuration" section:

Hi Tim,

Excellent, and thank you for the update. That type of errors should be found in the orbeon.log. (You don't necessarily want to show system-level errors in the HTML you return, in particular for security reasons.) If they aren't, just let us know how we can reproduce this, and we'll see if we can improve it.
