Running in Eclipse Studio

Running in Eclipse Studio

I have now successfully got OPS to work by editing my pages, etc from the console. I would now like to see how much easier it is within Eclipse, but I can't find any resources to tell me what to do.

In particular how do I make the site run. The project doesn't show up in the list of projects that can be added to a server.

Does the plugin do anything more than create a template project, e.g. form editor  ?

I came across OPS from Intalio and they have created an xforms editer in Eclipse, but it is tailored to their environment which is built on top of OPS. They have a forms manager and you ask it for your form, and when you press submit it accesses their BPM layer. We are using Intalio so I am happy to use their system but I didn't want to learns that and OPS at the same time so I was bypassing their bit for the time being.

Richard,

If you have a current version of OPS, use Import OPS Application From WAR, this will create a new project for you in Eclipse

Running in Eclipse Studio
I can create the project in Eclipse but how to I run it within eclipse. If I try to add the project to the tomcat server in the 'servers' window they don't appear in the list of projects I can add (only my WebTools created web services appear). If I add a run configuration under Tomcat it says it can't find main in

Running in Eclipse Studio

I use the internal tomcat for Eclipse and selecting Run from the menu starts it fine. I think Eclipse can control an external tomcat also.

Running in Eclipse Studio
So are you saying I should ensure my workspace files are in the tomcat webapps directory and then start tomcat within Eclipse ?

I can start tomcat within Eclipse, it's just that I can't get it to see my OPS pages because they are still in my workspace. WebTools somehow manages to tell tomcat that its created web services are not inside webapps.

Well when using the internal tomcat for Eclipse the workspace becomes your webapp directory, I’m not sure about using an external one, you’d have to look at the documentation

RE: Running in Eclipse Studio

Richard Braman
The best way to use external tomcat that I have found is MyEclipse.  I also tried sysdeo and wst.

I got it working with MyEclipse ($30/year subscription). Steps were simple.

Build OPS from source in eclipse

Installed MyEclipse

Copied freshy built ops.war into webapps of my tomcat

Point window->preferences=>My Eclipse to my tomcat install

Run MyEclipse Applcation Servers->Tomcat

I set a breakpoint at oxf.orbeon.oxf.servlet on line 51 of OPSServlet.java and it broke.

I stepped all the way through it which led me through the starting of the server. I then launched localhost:8080/ops and now am on to getting OPS to break on a hit.  This is dont by setting a breakpoint in one of the org.orbeon.oxf classes which one you use depends on what you want to see happen

Richard,

If you have a current version of OPS, use Import OPS Application From WAR, this will create a new project for you in Eclipse

Subject: [ops-users] Running in Eclipse Studio

Yes, this is correct: in Run / Run... in the J2EE Container tab you
can choose a directory that contains a Tomcat installation on your
machine, if you don't want to use the internal Tomcat. This is as
shown in the attached screenshot.
