Hello, Erik -
You write - **> Writing to a file via a submission is not implemented at this time for security reasons (also because in most cases people use a database to store this kind of data). While what you say may be true in general, my students and I are trying to learn how to migrate our Mozilla-XForms-compatible logic to Orbeon as part of an effort to upgrade to a commercial XForms package. Since we've been using SQL Server as our back-end database, which isn't currently supported by Orbeon ... don't have much experience with XPL or eXist ... and were hoping to make this decision without first becoming experts in XPL and eXist ... this lack of even a configuration option for allowing Orbeon to write to files is something of a frustration. Do our concerns about why we would wish to write to files make sense? And, if so, is there anything that you might advise us to do that would allow us to proceed, short of having to "go all the way" and write a service just to see if Orbeon is a viable tool for our needs? Phil,
Good question. Since this is something that can useful in other circumstances as well, I adressed it here: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/7615599/how-can-i-test-xforms-using-submissions-if-i-dont-have-the-services-available You'll let us know if this is something that works for you.
