Yes, unless it is simpler to have some sort of ajax popup as long as I can have dynamic content with a search engine in the popup

In my example:
- one of the field in my form is a name and an ID of a person and I want to force people to choose that person in my referential, by forcing them to choose that person with a search engine (by name, first name, etc...) and clicking on a result, which would insert the name and ID in the field of my form.

By popup window, do you mean a heavy browser window?

Communication between heavy browser windows is dirty. You will have to  
figure it out using JavaScript. So yes, it would be better to use a  
lightweight dialog, with xxforms:dialog. This means you can do  
everything in XForms.
