Orbeon Forms 3.7.1 (Developer Release) is out!

All,

We are glad to announce that Orbeon Forms 3.7.1, a Developer Release,  
is now available. Grab it from here:

The full list of over 400 changes since 3.6 is available here:

The online examples have been updated as well:

   http://www.orbeon.com/ops/

This release follows a new numbering scheme:

* Even-numbered releases (3.6, 3.8, etc.) are considered "stable"  
releases
* Odd-numbered releases (3.7, 3.9, etc.) are considered "developer"  
releases

We picked the number 3.7.1 for two reasons:

* Many users have been assuming that 3.7 was already out!
* There are a couple of issues we would like to address before the  
next official "stable" release.

Please report problems with this build to the mailing-list.

Loads of new features, performance improvements etc.--well done!

I also noticed that there was a mention about "Firefox 3 support" in  
the Noteworthy Changes list. In addition, I found out that the  
following issue regarding rewrite had been fixed:

  which is still open. Anyway, I thought I will test the new version  
of Orbeon Forms in the separate deployment mode.

I created a dummy Web application (rewrite.war) and followed the  
instructions on this Web page: http://www.orbeon.com/ops/doc/reference-xforms-java

First, I ran into the following problem:

HTTP Status 500
Exception:
javax.servlet.ServletException: Filter execution threw an exception
Root cause:
java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: org/apache/commons/lang/StringUtils

After adding that missing library (http://commons.apache.org/downloads/download_lang.cgi 
) to the WEB-INF/lib folder (the folder now contains two libraries,  
the other one being orbeon-xforms-filter.jar) everything worked fine  
and Orbeon Forms was able to process XForms syntax on my Web page (I  
used the Guess The Number example Web application to test XForms  
Filter).

After that I created a dummy Web page (test.jsp) and put it into the  
same folder in which Guess The Number is running. The Web page has a  
reference to an external XML file in order to test the rewrite issue.  
When trying to run the Web page (test.jsp) I got the following error:

The external XML file is located at http://localhost:8080/rewrite/xforms-jsp/guess-the-number/external-xml-instance.xml 
  but Orbeon Forms is trying to located it from a different folder  
(adding /orbeon folder after the Web application's context name).

You can reproduce this behavior using the dummy Web application  
(rewrite.war), which has been attached to this email.

I and others see the link to the 3.7.1 on http://www.orbeon.com/forms/download. Maybe the browser still has the previous version of the page in cache. Have you now been able to download the 3.7.1?

It certainly looks like a duplicate bug, but it wasn't marked as such. So I am not sure if it was marked incorrectly as "fixed" instead of "duplicated" or if it was really another issue. The bottom line is that the one you are interested in is unfortunately still open.

Thank you for attaching another good test case for this; I added a link to your message in the bug, so we can test your example as well when we deal with this one.

That one was fixed in May 2008 ;)

Unfortunately as Alex said this one hasn't been fixed yet :-(

Oops. We can easily lift the dependency on this JAR as we only need  
one method from StringUtils. I have made this change.

Ummm I am perplex I now see the link to 3.7.1!!!.  On that note I had
downloaded it from the forge already as per Markku
suggestion.

btw: Great job guys on this release all of the show stopper that I had a
year ago are now gone so time for me to reactivate my project.  You
might hear more from me in the coming months 8-)

Any ETA on Orbeon Forms 3.8?

I'm trying to decide whether to start extending based on 3.7.x or wait until 3.8 is released.

The 3.8 release will be quite close to the current nightly builds, so
I recommend you use those until 3.8 is released. The alternative would
be to use the 3.7.1 release, but if you use nightly builds you'll find
that many things have been fixed and improved since then. See the
