eclipse ganymede is free http://www.eclipse.org/. You import the
orbeon.war and take your time.

It depends if you want to see the Java source code, or the source code  
of the examples.

For the Java source code, you need either the CVS or orbeon-src.zip.  
You can unzip and open this in any Java IDE, like Eclipse, or IntelliJ.

For the examples, the same applies, except they are under the WAR  
file, under WEB-INF/resources.
