Well, until 'some time ago' eXist used Java system properties to pass
over some essential information between program parts. I know this is
was a bad design but.... it was a fact of life.

Here we had thus an serious issue ; if one instance of exist did set
the system properties it was use by all other instances in the same
JVM. This could result in big sh*t......

Quite some time ago we did repair this defect, it should be possible
now to have multiple eXist instances in one servlet container, so the
thing to repair is..... the documentation :) (please can you tell me
where you did read it?)

So..... please just try to use multiple eXist instances in one
container...... and report if there are still issues

regards

Dannes

Mike,

Useful information. It's good to know that the problem has been taken
care of "quite some time ago".
