Java memory usage

Einar Moos
Hello,

we have OPS on Tomcat 6 on a virtual server with 2 Giga memory. When the xforms get used, specially when repeats are activated by the users, the memory usage (by Java, IMHO) shoots to 1,7 Giga and slows down calling repeats and nested repeats, submissions, etc.

We are planning to move the production environment onto a physical machine with 16 Giga mem.

Will (can) this secure an active production for heavy use of large xforms?

I have tried different settings on both eXist and OPS properties on caching, documents, etc. yet it has so far not proven sufficiently successful.

Any thoughts?

What's your maximum Java heap set to? Have you used something like
YourKit to observe actual memory usage within the VM?

Erik,

Our maximum Java heap is set to 1,6 Giga. Should we raise it?

Thanks,

Einar,

You can always try it if you have enough physical memory. It probably
depends on the number of concurrent users and the size of the form. Do
you have any data you can share on this topic?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Java memory usage

Einar Moos
Erik,

we have done test and printed out some of the results. If you can have a look, perhaps you can something we still don't understand fully.

We doubling the memory to 4 Giga. As the forms get bigger and eventually up to 20 users may be filling them, our goal is to avoid any slow down.

Thanks for all you comments,
