Hello Everyone,
-- I'm an experienced Java and web application developer who has just started working with xForms on a project to which I have recently been assigned. One of the things I am being tasked with is to look at Internet Explorer support. I don't have specific examples that were given to me, but I was told that our development team was having problems with IE 10 and 11 in older xForms releases. Even with IE 9 compatibility mode, the forms function but look very ugly and lays our poorly to the point where the forms have usability issues. I am trying to determine what our expectations should be if we upgrade to the 4.4 release. Then release notes contain only simple statements that IE 9/10 support is added as a new feature, and in the "recommended browser" section it lists the same IE 9/10 notice but with no additional cautions or compliance information. What level of "support" should we expect with Orbeon Forms 4.4? Is it supported in full mode, or only in compatibility mode? What about Internet Explorer 11? These are the questions that I really need to answer as we make a determination for this upgrade. I appreciate your help and suggestions. Thanks, Aaron You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Orbeon Forms" group. Hi Aaron,
First, IE11: it was released for Windows 8.1 on October 17, and we released 4.4 on November 4, so we should have added IE11 to our list of supported browser and tested with, but we didn't, and of course there was an issue with IE11. Since then we fixed it, and IE11 will be supported in 4.5 to be released early next year. When using Form Builder, we really recommend you use Chrome, Firefox, or Safari, especially when creating large forms, as those browsers have shown to be significantly faster than IE. For Form Builder, we currently support IE9+. With 4.5 are thinking of switching to IE10+, as done by Google (https://support.google.com/a/answer/33864). But in Form Runner, where people are in general the most interested in seeing more browsers supported, we do support IE7+. And if, on any browser, you see rendering issues that impact usability, please let us know. Does this make sense? Alex

Hello Alex, Thanks for the response. In my company we are not using Form Builder, and we have very little using form runner. The vast majority of our applications are using xForms that we wrote manually. In this situation, is the browser compliance statement still the same as form runner, meaning IE7 through IE10?

Hi Aaron,
Yes, exactly, if you write your XForms by hand, you'll be good with IE7+. Alex
