Nawras,

Before you can save your form, you need to enter the app and form name, as well as a form title, and a title for the first section. Then you should see the "Save" button become enabled.

The UI is not as clear as it should at this point so we also have an entry covering this in the Orbeon FAQ (google "Orbeon Forms FAQ" and lookup the entires below "Form Builder").

As a newbie I have exactly the same problem with  Forms Builder ..
Orbeon Forms 3.7.0beta1.200808260135

I have installed Orbeon o.k. in localhost on Vista.

Reading this thread .. I made sure that I filled in the opening fields ..

Application name    .. test1
Form Name            .. test2
Form Title             .. test3
Form Description    .. test4

then I clicked on New Form

Form Title               this was still blank .. so I inserted some more text .. test5
Form Description      this was still blank .. so I inserted some more text .. test6

(should these fields carry forward content "test3" and "test4" from opening form??)

section ... I inserted some text .. test7

So all fields had some text inserted .. but still ..

Test > Publish > Save are not clickable

d~l

.....

Update ..

after posting this I noticed "Metadata" in the left hand navigation panel.

I inserted text into fields
Application Name
and
Form Name

and the Test > Publish > Save are now enabled ..  so it seems that Metadata is mandatory .. why not use validation in Forms Builder itself?

I click on Test and a form is launched .. but the next problem is that the "Close" button does not close the form

d~l

.......

Another update ..

Sorry .. I'm still trying the simplest of tests in Forms Builder but just can't get it to work intuitively ..

I first create a new basic form with Metadata fields completed and just a few fields completed ..

If I click "Test" I can see the basic test form in browser .. but the "Close" button does not work ..

If I click now on Publish .. then "Publish and Open" .. there is no form seen .. "No form data was found"  .. BUT if I now click on "New Form" the form opens and I can then Publish to show the form in Adobe PDF.

Any other newbies with similar problems in Forms Builder?

I would recommend using a recent nightly build instead. Lots of bug-
fixes have been introduced since the version you are using.

Thanks for the suggestion .. I deleted my previous orbeon installation and tried the nightly build.

Orbeon Forms Nightly Build
Download zip file
Download just the Web Archive (WAR) file
These are Zip and WAR files built automatically as Orbeon Forms developers make changes to the source code. Nighly builds are the most up-to-date versions of Orbeon Forms you can get. They contain the latest features and bug-fixes, but they also haven't been tested yet so you use them at your own risk!

then launched Form Builder (ALPHA)

.. version: Orbeon Forms 3.7.0beta1+.200812240128

Clicked "New"

I note that Metadata section in accordion menu is missing.
It was there in previous Form Builder I tried ??

I tried ..

Application Name .. text enters o.k.
Form Name ..  text enters o.k.

then I tried ..
"Click to enter the form title" .. doesn't allow field text entry

then ..
"Click to enter a section title" ..  doesn't allow field text entry

then ..
"Click to enter a label" ..  doesn't allow field text entry

I have not tried .. as I did on my first installation ..

Orbeon Forms 3.7 beta 1
Download zip package (about 48 MB)
Download tar.gz package (about 48 MB)
This package contains Orbeon Forms 3.7 beta 1. This release is not a final version of Orbeon Forms 3.7, but it has received more testing than the nightly builds usually do.

Not too good an openingexperience for a newbie.

I might look for some other xform builder script to work with Orbeon.

Ideally linked to PHP5 on a connected Apache server which I'm using for content management (Drupal 6 + PHP5).

Currently I am calling Orbeon forms embedded in an iframe in Drupal content page.

I'm using Firefox 3.0 and have Firebug installed if it helps to track down bugs.

The application and form name, which before were in a metadata
section, have been moved to the top of the page. This was done to make
those fields more visible to one starting a new form. So this is normal.

However you should of course be able to edit the form title and the
section title by clicking on those. If this doesn't work for you, I am
wondering if it could be because the browser cached an old version of
the JavaScript code. Could you try to empty your browser cache, and
try this again?

Thanks .. I went back to the test localhost site and the field edit problems have disappeared. I can create forms.

I have been using CCleaner  ..   http://www.ccleaner.com/       ... to clear out files and cache so it may well have been old JavaScript.

I'm using Vista and Firefox 3.0.5
