Dropdown label

Lomobob
Hi again,

I would like to position the dropdown control label on the left (instead of the top), and found that it was an idea for the future (http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/projects/form-runner-builder/form-builder-future-features); meanwhile, is anyone having an idea to deal with it with css ?

Thanks,

Lomobob

Re: Dropdown label

As usual, just ask and the solution appears right after !

In the metric properties of the select element, I downsized the width and it's ok.

Thanks anyway :)

Hi Lomobob,

I'm glad you found a solution to this one. It's a FAQ (truly!), so this is something we'd like at some point to have out-of-the-box, so you can more easily switch between "labels at the top" and "labels on the side" with a property, or a setting in Form Builder.

This post was updated on .
Sorry for stirring this topic in his grave, but it is not clear to me how to achieve this. I really need some labels to the left, top or right (but mostly left)

Was there a definite solution for that, or a workaround for a non dev to achieve this please?

TIA!

ps. I guess this is related https://github.com/orbeon/orbeon-forms/commit/3d45d5580e6ddae994cfccdc57496e436ea29257

Hi,

I imagine that you are asking the question in the context of forms created with Form Builder. Assuming this is the case, a "workaround" is to use an Explanatory Text field that you place in your grid to the left of your field. The only "problem" with this is one of accessibility, where the label and field are not "bound", and which is great for those using a screen reader. And we plan to remedy this by implementing #4778.

https://github.com/orbeon/orbeon-forms/issues/4778

You'll let us know if using an Explanatory Text for this purpose works for you,

Hi Alex, thanks for your response. Yes, that would help for now, not ideal (not bound) but it will do for now. Thanks again!

And Hsing-Foo, I totally agree it isn't ideal as, like you said, the Explanatory Text isn't bound to the field, which isn't good to accessibility, but as a heads-up, this is something we are planning to implement later this year.
