Best way to write Custom Components

Jeremiah Jahn-4
I'm starting a new project with Orbeon, but I'm going to need a few custom components that can be used from the form builder. What is the best way to do this, that will stay compatible in the long term with the way things are headed as far as Orbeon is concerned?  Or to put it another way, where do I start?

thanks,
-jj-

Jeremiah,

Since about a year ago, we have started implementing XBL in Orbeon
Forms. This is designed exactly for that: creating reusable UI
components. So that is the way we recommend.

In very simple cases, you can also use XSLT, but the integration with
XForms can be problematic at times.

For a start, look at:

XBL - Guide to Using and Writing XBL Components
http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/developer-guide/xbl-components-guide

XBL - Existing XBL Components
http://wiki.orbeon.com/forms/doc/developer-guide/xbl-existing-xbl-components

Also check the existing components in the source code, under:

http://github.com/orbeon/orbeon-forms/tree/master/src/resources-packaged/xbl/orbeon

We are still working on some issues, in particular:

XBL - Scoping Improvements
