I think the Form Builder looks really cool. I tried to bring up a test form. I found that on my machine only the "Close" and Clear buttons seem to be enabled. Save icon, Test button and Publish Button do not work! Again, it could be me! Again, great job, guys!! ilango

Ilango,
Thanks! Regarding saving, you need first to enter form metadata. Until you have done that, you can't save it, test it or publish it. It's something we have to make clearer, obviously. -Erik On May 15, 2008, at 5:21 PM, ilango_g wrote: > > Erik > I think the Form Builder looks really cool. Ilango,
Form Builder / Form Runner have a few goals: * Making building simple forms really easy. * Reducing the amount of boring work: creating boilerplate code, typing in placeholders for control labels and the likes, dealing with basic CSS, etc. * Making available out of the box an architecture that goes beyond XForms, in particular to handle persistence, attachments, i18n, form layout, etc. This so you don't have to reinvent the wheel all the time. So I would say not to worry: Form Builder is meant to handle the basics for now, and more complex forms and behaviors will still require some hand-coding. However, as we go, the plan is to integrate the most common usage patterns. -Erik On May 15, 2008, at 4:50 PM, ilango_g wrote: > > Programming Xforms is fun and challenging. Thanks! Under Form Metadata, I entered values for Application name and Form Name. Is there anything else I need to enter as far as Metadata is concerned. Obviously to me, it looks like I need to go Under Advanced, I need to do things like Upload Schema, Upload CSS,etc, before the disabled buttons for Save, Test, etc become enabled? ilango

You also need the form title. Just these 3 piece of data should be
enough. -Erik On May 15, 2008, at 5:40 PM, ilango_g wrote: > > Erik > Thanks! > Under Form Metadata, I entered values for Application name and Form > Name. Can someone point me at some performance tuning docn for orbeon. I have it
installed and working quite happily but whenever i fire up an application it takes an age for the start page to appear in the web browser. I don't mind waiting but if i have real uses out there using the stuff a 20 sec delay before they can start using an app is not on. The server it's on isn't really doing anything else other than running a resin java app server Alex -- You receive this message as a subscriber of the [hidden email] mailing list. * What do you mean by "fire up an application"? * What version of Orbeon Forms is this? I have firefox3-b5 on linux-kubuntu and it is working for me.
My naive observations: Sometimes it takes a while to have the save button enabled. Make sure all your changes are committed: no more "Change or Cancel embedded widgets". Tweak something else in the form than the 3 necessary fields. I hope this helps. Hugues. Hi guys!
I have already praised the new form builder in a comment on the blog. Again, fantastic stuff. Found out what the reason for my problems with saving and testing the form was: Metadata (application and form name) must not include spaces! The also required form title can have spaces. Once you get rid of the spaces in the metadata PLUS do one more update action in another part of the form, it should be possible to save and run the form. You see that your metadata entry is invalid if the 'must be non-empty' line doesn't disappear. Here is one layout oriented observation for the admired developers: The longer text of the toolbar buttons e.g. 'Single-Line Text' is cut off and not fully displayed: This happens with Firefox 2.0.0.14 both on Mac OS X and Win XP. With Firefox 3b on Mac OS X this does not happen.
