Inserting a section template changes its control name

milada
I've created a section template which contains a root section <hidden-fields>
which contains nested sections and text fields.
When I insert this section template into another form in the form builder,
the control name changes from <hidden-fields> to <section-1>.
The contents of the section are unchanged and look right. Why might this be
happening?
I will be pre-filling this section on the back-end and need the root section
to have the control name hidden-fields.

Thank you for your time.

Hi Milada,

A form author could insert that section template multiple times in the form,
and section names must be unique, so the section name must be set by the
form author using the section template. And just like adding a new section,
by default Form Builder picks a name like `section-1`.

Would having a "contract" with the form author that "if you want the section
to be filled automatically, then you must name it `hidden-fields`" work in
your situation?

Hi Milada, just checking: does having the form author naming the section, as
suggested in my previous message, work for you?

Re: Inserting a section template changes its control name

Jarosław Kowalewski
Hi Alex,
I would like to follow the topic. I have the same 'issue' as Milada.
Your answer is half correct. Yes, we can include the same section many times into the same form. But why we have to change the node name each time.
I suppose the most common case is that we include such a section only once. e.g. address section or contact person as a common part of many forms and is expected to keep the original node name.

Of course, when form author wants to include the same section more than once, the name of the section should be rather something like address-1 address-2 then section-1, etc.
Please take into account that form authors are usually no technical persons and imagine how difficult is to explain to them that they have to remember to change node name. To be honest I also have the same problem:)

The same case is with the section's label. Labels are not copied when you use template. I don't remember exactly, but there was reported such bug - (ver. 2018.2.1 CE)

Hi Jarek,

Yes, this makes sense, and we have a request for enhancement for this
already, on which I added a +1 from you and Milada.
